The weekend of February 7, 2003, I flew to Los Angeles to attend the opening of an art car exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum, and to follow along with Philo Northrup's art car caravan and folk art tour afterward. During my four days in L.A. and the California desert, I saw many weird and wonderful things!
The exhibit opening wasn't until Friday evening, so I had the daylight hours available for sightseeing. A lesser tourist might have played it safe at the Hollywood sign, the La Brea Tar Pits, or a movie studio tour. Instead, I pulled out my trusty copy of Eccentric America by Jan Friedman, in which I've marked with a yellow sticky note every eccentric place in the USA that I intend to visit someday. (Sigh... so many stickies, so little time...)
By the way, that's David Crow's award-winning art car Red Stiletto on the cover.
